Filmed over twelve years across ten countries, KANCHENJUNGA traces a journey from the colonial exploitation of corporations in Darjeeling to a small tea shop in South Lebanon, where the director’s grandmother used tea as a shelter from war. This hybrid documentary debut intertwines personal memory with geopolitical backgrounds and the politics of image-making. Constantly interrupted by a witty dialog between the director and a confused narrator, the film wanders around the stories of ordinary people instead of showing the mountain peak.
