The 42nd Kassel Documentary Film Festival is over, both, on site and online. For the upcoming edition in November 2026 DokfestOnline will broaden the festival and the cinema space to the virtual sphere once again.
Until the next festival, selected international documentary films can be streamed throughout Germany on the online portal dok@home for €5 per film. dok@home is the online film library of five documentary film festivals. Together with Dok.fest Munich, dokKa Karlsruhe, LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt International, Doxumentale Berlin, and the Kassel Dokfest, the first joint streaming platform for festival documentaries has been created.
The selection grows with each festival edition. Many films are accompanied by in-depth film discussions recorded at the festivals.
Our latest release on the platform is Pei-Chin Lee’s film “An Island,” in which the director showcases the countless facets of everyday life in Taiwan during the local elections. Each shot stands on its own as a separate continent, with its own rhythm, perceptible duration, times of day, color palette, and mood.
Also available from Kassel is Re Karen's film "Fasia, von trutzigen Frauen und einer Troubadora" which was first released in 1987 and was digitized, reworked, and re-released as a theatrical documentary in 2024. The film portrays Fasia Jansen (1929–1997), a singer from Hamburg’s working class who fought against fascism, racism, and oppression and sang for peace with her blues voice.
Catherine Bernstein's film trilogy "Kassel, années 30: une trilogie allemande" (Kassel, 1930s: a German trilogy), which celebrated its German premiere at the 41st Kassel Dokfest 2024 after almost 30 years, can also be streamed via the platform.
