Lovers' Discourse

(BALi, KulturBahnhof Kassel)

No love song, but a discourse about love. These five films investigate the concept of love. We experience love as a feeling of longing, in gestures and symbols, in bytes and pixels, in poems and music. Love seems to be everywhere, on the sports ground, at the party, on the internet and at quite unusual occasions. Yet we still can’t grasp it. Is love just a commercialized feeling, a bodily reaction, or just projection? Even though—or maybe because—it is so mysterious, love is just wonderful. (Sarah Adam)

Four Percent

Monika Masłoń’s virtual reality experiment is an intimate portrayal of interactions that explore the experience of meeting in digital worlds and to what extent love is perceived as a bodily experience. We see avatars interacting with each other and how they attempt to bridge the gap left by the lack of physical contact. In this uncanny setting, we suddenly feel the gestures, the touch and the connection.

Será Inmortal Quien Merezca Serlo (Whoever Deserves It, Will Be Immortal)

    CN: Violence
A secret love, ephemeral, inexpressible and still documented. Sergio, Ubaldo and Yolexquis read from the diary of the late Winston Hernandez, which lets them remember the past and reflect on their current situations. These four men from different generations of the Cuban gay community share conversations and experiences. Words and music give them the power to be at peace with themselves, to pursue their own destinies and to love life.

    From Ecuador With Love

A calm camera shows movements and workflows. We follow the workers and the production line on a flower farm. From now on, these symbols of love may trigger different associations in our minds.

    Abortion Party

A monologue underlined with visual references to video games, YouTube tutorials and DIY vintage aesthetics. The continuous flow of words describes absurd situations and funny coincidences, but also intimate landscapes and personal feelings. Everything is punk: the decorum trashy and the occasion somewhat unusual, however, the party is full of people who care for each other.
