La Memoria de las Mariposas (The Memory of Butterflies)

In her award-winning film essay, Tatiana Fuentes Sadowski combines experimental 8mm images with historical photographs and early film footage to explore one aspect of the history of colonial violence in the Amazon region – the enslavement and murder of indigenous people by the barons of the European rubber industry. Instead of protest, anger, and demarcation, the director chooses a symbolic and sensual, sometimes dreamlike examination of the images and fates between cultures and generations.
