Aysun Bademsoy – Game Changer, part 2: Nach dem Spiel

(kleines BALi, KulturBahnhof Kassel)

Aysun Bademsoy’s observational documentaries open up very special perspectives. With her keen sense for people and situations, she establishes a trusting relationship with her protagonists. The people talk about their lives and openly share insights into their emotional worlds.

The documents and testimonies of Turkish Women in Berlin, collected during her long-term observation (1995–2024), have received little attention to date. For the 30th anniversary of “Mädchen am Ball” (1995), all four films are now available in digital form, giving us the opportunity to take a closer look.

“Nach dem Spiel” is the second part of a four-part series.

Nach dem Spiel

Aysun Bademsoy meets the protagonists of “Mädchen am Ball” two years later. While imagining the future, they navigate their daily lives between sport, career, and family.  Arzu, Safiye, Nalan, Nazan and Özlem experience how scarce job opportunities are, and the everyday racism in the German work environments. In cheerful gatherings, casual conversations, and thoughtful moments, the friends share their insecurities and fears. They openly express their ideas about their future, well aware of the obstacles they will have to overcome in their conflict-ridden lives between two cultures.
