Klaus Fried's film is a fascinating puzzle portrait of his famous father, the great post-war poet Erich Fried, who became the guru of the alternative left-wing movement of the 1968 and 1970s through his political writings and speeches, and later through his love poems. “It's a strange thing to share your father with a generation of young Germans who couldn't trust their own (fathers).” The son, who grew up in the open house of a man uprooted by the Nazis, discovers his heritage, which points deeply into the present, on a journey through space and time.
