School life between air raid shelters and classrooms: In TIMESTAMP, director Kateryna Gornostai accompanies a generation that is directly feeling the consequences of Russia’s war of aggression – one in four schools in Ukraine has now been damaged or destroyed. Despite the constant danger, teachers strive to maintain a semblance of normality and to enable education and community. The film dispenses with interviews and voice-overs, remaining unobtrusive in its snapshots of pupils and teachers. This kaleidoscopic view paints a picture of a society that steadfastly defends the dignity of education.
