To Dance Is to Resist

CN: Flashing Lights
Jay and Vol’demar’s everyday life as a queer couple in Kyiv seems full of contradictions: dance rehearsals, photo shoots and quiet dinners at home are just as much a part of it as nights spent in the bathtub due to bomb alerts. Yet in strikingly staged sequences, they use their dance performances to express what is difficult to put into words. The dedication with which their collective works on costumes, makeup, and choreography is deeply impressive, and it quickly becomes clear just how much these projects help their community process and endure the state of emergency brought on by the war.
