CN: Sexualized Violence
In March 2019, Julie Douib was murdered on Corsica by her ex-husband, a man already known as dangerous despite unheeded signs of domestic violence. Giulia Montineri returns to her home island to understand this femicide, asking why police didn't intervene and what those around Douib saw. Beyond interviewing people who knew her, Montineri probes the misogynistic system voiced in everyday conversation, from teenagers discussing school to petanque players airing gendered assumptions. Accompanied by the martyrdom of Saint Julie of Corsica, she develops an urgent need to break the cycle of violence.
