The Cinema Are Us

| The Cinema Are Us
(Gloria)

Into the 1980s, a movement emerges in the Federal Republic of Germany that advocated a new kind of political cinema. In Kassel, a collective of film enthusiasts founds the Filmladen. They want to make the world more equal, more critical of the environment, society, and capitalism with alternative film art. In her collage of interviews, archive finds and film excerpts, Livia Theuer lets contemporary witnesses and filmmakers who influenced the Filmladen express their thoughts on the meaning and future of a committed cinema culture.
