The selection committees nominate works from the festival program for the festival awards. The festival grants three cash prizes with a total value of 12,000 € and one production-grant of up to 8,000 €. The awards are dedicated to the participating authors and artists. Independent juries decide on the awards.
Since 2015 the festival awards a Honorary Award.

The Kassel Dokfest is giving an Honorary Award to established film and cultural workers, who have distinguished themselves by particularly innovative achievements in film, art and art mediation, and are locals or connected to the Kassel Dokfest in a special way. The prize is donated by the Kassel based company Hübner GmbH & Co. KG and endowed with 3,000€.
The grant is awarded from the long-term cooperation partners Kassel Dokfest, Werkleitz – Center for Media Art, the Medienanstalt Sachsen-Anhalt and the Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting in Hesse. The scholarship is endowed with 4,000 € for accommodation and travel costs. Additionally, the grant receiver is granted another 4,000 € allowances in kind, which can, for example, be used for HD production equipment (camera, editing, etc.) at Werkleitz – Center for Media Art, which also provides professional and logistical advice.
The Golden Cube, endowed with 3,500 €, is awarded to the best media installation selected for the exhibition Monitoring and is sponsored by the software company Micromata GmbH. All works selected for the exhibition are automatically nominated for this prize.

The Golden Key, sponsored by the City of Kassel and endowed with 5,000 € in total, is divided into 2,500 € each for the best documentary short film up to 66 minutes and the best documentary feature film of more than 66 minutes.
The Golden Hercules honors the best film production from Northern Hesse. The prize, donated by Machbar GmbH, a corporate communications agency with headquarters in Kassel, is endowed with € 3,500.
